Vintage Kitchen Must Have One-Of-A-Kind

Before the refrigerator, a good cheese needed somewhere cool and covered to go on ripening, kept safe from the flies and the dust of the kitchen. Found in Le Perche and made in the 20th century, this is a fromagier, a small wood cabinet with a glass front and a single shelf inside. The glass let you keep an eye on the cheese without opening the door, and the closed box kept it away from the kitchen while it aged, the way every French household looked after the one thing worth looking after. Sylvie keeps it on the kitchen counter with a wedge of cheese and a few grapes inside, a little larder in miniature.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The door is fitted with glass. The hardware shows areas of rust patina, and the top has minor cracks and water marks.
