French Gathering Basket

France, 20th Century

$115

Out to the garden empty and back full, a basket like this carried in whatever the morning gave, eggs, cut flowers, the first of the beans. Found in Normandy and dating to the 20th century, it is handwoven from willow, a shallow basket with a high arched handle and a weave that runs a little uneven, the sign of a hand rather than a machine. Sylvie keeps it by the door for market mornings, or on a shelf holding tea towels and her bits and bobs.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
