Carpenters Working Table

France, 20th Century

$395

Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Rare

The best working tables earn their keep twice, once as a surface and once as the store hidden beneath the top. Found in Le Perche and dating to the early 20th century, it is a tall narrow table whose top lifts on hinges to reveal a box divided into four compartments, with a low shelf below and tapered legs. A carpenter kept his small things sorted this way, the nails and screws and odd parts each in their own square, the lid dropping flat again to give him a surface to work on. Sylvie stands it beside a sofa or bed as a side table, the divided box inside for the clutter a room collects and a vase of flowers on top.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The unfinished wood shows some stains, scuffs, and imperfections, with slight separation between the slats on the top and bottom. The hinge hardware is sturdy.
