Set a hot pot straight on a good table and it would scorch, so a framed tile like this stood ready to take the heat, pretty enough to leave out between meals. Found in Le Mans and dating to the 20th century, it is a blue-and-white tile painted with a basket of flowers, set into a wood frame with a twisted rope edge. The basket of flowers is the old blue-and-white pattern that ran across European china for two centuries, here on a tile so even a working piece had something worth looking at. Sylvie sets it out under a teapot at breakfast, and leans it against the backsplash the rest of the day.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The tile shows some discoloration and fine crazing in the glaze, and the feet show signs of a previous repair.
All items are final sale.
