19th c. French Coffee Table

France, 19th Century

$1,595

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Sylvie Favorite

In a hunting lodge this table held the ammunition, the powder and the shot kept in its drawer, ready for the morning's shoot. Found in Le Mans and dating to the 19th century, it has since been cut down to coffee-table height, its thick worn top over a single deep drawer with a brass drop handle, on square tapered legs. The drawer that once held the shot now takes whatever a living room would rather not show, and the top carries the scars of a working lodge, every mark earned. Sylvie sets it in front of a sofa, the drawer for candles and cards and the old top for books, flowers, and a place to put your feet.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The wood shows some staining and chipping, with cosmetic splits along the tabletop and underside. The drawers open comfortably, and new handle hardware has been added.
