Petite Scallop Cupboard

The village woodworker who made this could have stopped at square and useful, but he kept going, cutting a wave into every edge he could reach. Found in Lille and dating to the early 20th century, it is a small cupboard in bare wood, open shelves up top over two little arched glass doors, with twisted posts down the front corners. The scalloped edges are the giveaway of country furniture, a bit of hand-cut decoration a maker added where a factory never would, no two waves quite even. Sylvie loves it in a child's bedroom, the open shelves lined with their favorite books and the little cupboard below for the small treasures worth keeping behind glass.
