Tall and turned all the way up, a pedestal like this was made to carry a single beautiful thing, a fern, a vase, a bust, up where the eye would find it. Found in Lille and dating to the early 20th century, it rises on a single baluster-turned column from a round stepped base to a small round top. The French call a tall stand like this a sellette, meant not for sitting down to but for holding something worth looking at in a corner or beside a chair. Sylvie stands it in a corner with a trailing plant spilling over the top, or by a window with a vase of tall stems.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use.
