Antique One-Of-A-Kind Jaw Dropper Rare

Lions have held up the furniture of grand houses for centuries, a symbol of strength set to guard the room, and here two of them, carved by hand, carry the whole table on their backs. Found in Lille and dating to the 19th century, it came from a hunting lodge on the grounds of a château near Chartres, a low table whose two ends are each a seated lion carved from solid wood, joined by a plank shelf below. Furniture carved as figures like this was the work of a skilled hand and made only for grand rooms, and a piece with both lions intact, down to the manes and the paws, is a rare thing to find whole. Sylvie sets it in front of a sofa with candles and a stack of books on top, the two lions keeping watch on either end of the room.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The wood has cracks and scuffs throughout the surface. It has been sanded back to raw, unfinished wood.
