French Coffee Table

France, 20th Century

$1,295

The coffee table is of the the most-used surface in a room, the one that holds the books, the flowers, and the cup set down mid-conversation. Found in Normandy and dating to the 20th century, it features a molded plank top over a shaped apron, on four turned legs braced near the floor by a box stretcher. That stretcher running all the way round just off the floor is old country building, bracing the legs so the table stays solid through a lifetime of feet propped on its edge. Sylvie sets it in front of a sofa with a stack of art books, a bowl of fruit, and a vase of something just cut.
