Vintage French Dresser

France, 20th Century

$1,195

In a French bedroom a chest this size held the folded linens and the good tablecloths, the things a household kept for best. Found in Lille and dating to the 20th century, it has three deep drawers with pierced metal pulls, fluted columns down each side, and small block feet, all stripped back to the bare, pale wood. Pieces like this were often painted once and later stripped back to the grain, the way so much French country furniture found its second life, bare and warm instead of buried under old paint. Sylvie uses it as a nightstand, low enough for a lamp and a book, with room in the drawers for everything that ends up beside a bed.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The wood is has been sanded back to a raw wood. The drawers may require a little extra care when opening and closing, and one leg is missing a piece of trim.
