Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Artwork Styling Essential

The figure with his head fallen back and his eyes closed is one of Michelangelo's, a marble he carved five hundred years ago for the tomb of Pope Julius II. This is a plaster cast of that sculpture, the head and shoulders taken from his Dying Slave, a mid-century reproduction found in Lille. Casts like this were made for art schools, where students learned to draw and sculpt from the masters long before seeing the originals, and the Dying Slave, now in the Louvre, was one of the most copied of them all. Sylvie stands it on a shelf where the afternoon light rakes across the plaster and deepens the hollows of the face.

Dear collector, these pieces have been used for many years and may show light wear consistent with their age. There is natural variation in color throughout. The back is roughly finished raw plaster, as intended, and the base is painted gray. You may also notice a few small areas of shiny finish on the plaster surface.
