Rare French Woven Stool

On the French Riviera in the middle of the last century, a husband and wife named Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet built furniture out of rope, rush, and sunlight, and this little stool is made in their manner. Found in Lille, it has a round seat of thick braided rush coiled tight, raised on three turned wooden legs that taper to a club at the foot. Audoux and Minet worked from a small shop in Golfe-Juan, and their rope-and-wood furniture is some of the most collected French design of its time, which keeps pieces made in their manner, like this one, in steady demand.
