Antique One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured

For a little mirror like this, the glass was never the point, it was the frame around it, and the more it swirled and curled the better. Found in Belgium and dating to the early 20th century, it holds a small oval glass inside a gilt bronze frame cast into shells, scrolls, and curling acanthus leaves. That swirling shell-and-leaf style is called rocaille, born in the French court of the 1700s and so admired that makers were still casting it two centuries later, as here. Sylvie hangs it in a small dark corner where it catches what little light there is and hands it back gold.

Dear collector, this piece has lived a long life and may show light scratches, darkened spotting, and the occasional chip or crack, with glass that may have been replaced along the way. This piece has a chain on the back for handing.
