Tapestry - Remelard

The trees lean in and part just enough to show a château on a far hill, the whole depth of a forest woven into a single panel. Found in Le Perche and dating to the 20th century, it is a verdure tapestry, worked in soft greens and golds with a spread of leaves and flowers across the foreground. Verdure means greenery, and woodland panels like this were woven for centuries to bring the depth and cool of a forest onto a bare wall. Sylvie hangs it behind a bed or over a sofa, a whole forest opening up on the wall.
