Beside a bed or against a wall, a stool like this waited for whatever small thing needed setting down, a candle, a book, a cup of water in the night. Found in Le Mans and made in the 20th century, it has a thick half-moon seat pegged onto three turned, tapered legs that splay out to the floor. No two of these were ever quite the same, each shaped by hand by a country woodworker who cut the seat, turned the legs, and pinned them through the top so the stool would outlast him. Sylvie stands it beside the bath with a folded towel and a candle on top, the one warm, curved thing in a plain white room.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece has a slight wobble consistent with its age and some variation in the finish.
