French Saddle Stool

France, 20th Century

$255

Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured Sylvie Favorite

In a kitchen full of hard chairs, this was the seat everyone went for first, the one you could sit on all evening without shifting. Found in Le Mans and made in the 20th century, its seat is hollowed into a saddle and set on three long tapered legs, splayed and pegged through from above. That comfort was carved in on purpose, the seat scooped by hand to cradle whoever sat down, a bit of extra work most stools never got. Sylvie pulls it up to the kitchen counter in the morning, the one seat in the house worth lingering over a coffee on.
