Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured Sylvie Favorite

Of everything in an old French kitchen, the little stool is the thing that tends to survive, too useful to throw out and too small to be in the way. Found in Lille and made in the 20th century, it has a round seat marked with a ring of turned circles, raised on three turned legs. Both the seat and the legs were shaped by hand while the wood spun, the rings and the swelling cut in one turning after another, the mark of a country maker who gave an everyday stool a little grace. Sylvie sets it at the foot of the bed with a folded blanket over the seat, low and always somehow in use.
