Antique One-Of-A-Kind Hard To Find

Almost every old French farmhouse table was long and rectangular, built to seat a crowd down both sides, which is exactly what makes a round one like this so uncommon. Found in Burgundy and dating to the 19th century, it is a big round table in bare, stripped wood, its thick top set on four square legs braced low by a stretcher near the floor. A round top was harder to make and rarer in a country house, and it changes the meal itself, no head of the table and no foot, everyone seated in one unbroken circle. Sylvie sets it in the middle of a dining room with chairs all the way around, laid for a long lunch where no one is in charge and no one leaves early.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The top is removable. The hardware shows rust, and the finish varies throughout, with some areas sanded back to raw wood.
