French Farm Table

France, 20th Century

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Wood

Long tables are an invitation to fill them, to pull up one more chair and then another until the whole room is seated together. Found in Normandy and dating to the 20th century, it is a monumental eight-seater in pale, stripped wood, a thick plank top on turned legs joined low by an H-stretcher. A table like this descends from the refectory, the long communal table a monastery or a great hall sat down to together, made so that no one ate apart. Sylvie sets it as a dining table with mismatched chairs down both sides and a row of candlesticks down the middle, built to hold a dinner that runs long into the night.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show subtle repairs, movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece has been sanded back to raw, unfinished wood, with scratches and water marks across the surface. Substantial in weight, it is very sturdy and solidly constructed. 23.75" from floor to bottom of apron.
