Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Sylvie Favorite

Midcentury French makers had a gift for turning plain wood into something sculptural, and this floor lamp is all of it, a stack of turned beads bending its neck to aim the light. Found in Le Mans and dating to the mid-20th century, it is turned wood throughout, a slim column on a round disc base rising to a neck of stacked balls that bends where you want it, beneath a wide conical shade. This was the French look of the 1940s and 50s, country materials reworked into clean, warm, sculptural shapes while the rest of the world reached for chrome and steel. Sylvie stands it beside a low chair for reading, the shade tilted down over a book.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The semi-gloss wood finish shows minor surface variation, while the shade has a few light marks from years of use. The lamp and foot switch function beautifully, and it has been rewired with an American plug.
