Antique One-Of-A-Kind Sylvie Favorite

The hinges are the first thing you notice, two great scrolls of hand-forged iron spread across the door like decoration as much as hardware. Found in Chartres and dating to the 18th century, it stands on block feet under a heavy molded cornice, a single carved-panel door opening with an iron lock and key. Behind the door, three deep shelves held whatever a household kept under lock, the linens, the papers, the good things put away. Sylvie stands it in an entry or a kitchen, the shelves inside for glasses and linens and the ironwork on the front doing all the decorating.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The semi-matte wood finish shows staining, chipping, and areas of wear throughout, with additional wear along the feet. The door sits slightly offset at the hinges but opens, closes, and locks comfortably. The piece is relatively sturdy, with a vertical slatted wood back and semi-finished interior shelves.
