Antique One-Of-A-Kind Hard To Find

In the prosperous Dutch houses of the 1700s, the commode was a piece made to show off, and none showed off like the bombé, its whole body swelling into curves only the best cabinetmakers could cut. Found in Le Mans and dating to the 18th century, it has four deep drawers swelling over carved scroll feet, hung with brass rococo pulls and keyplates. The Dutch took the swelling curve from French Rococo and made it so completely their own that a commode like this reads as Dutch at a glance. Sylvie sets it in an entryway with a lamp and a bowl for keys on top, a grand old thing to meet you at the door.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece has been sanded back to raw, unfinished wood, with areas of wood filler visible on the surface from previous repairs. The pull on the third drawer shows some wear and is partially broken.
