19th c. Oval Farm Table

France, 19th Century

$2,995

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare Oh So French!

Most farm tables are rectangles, which makes an oval one like this the softer, rarer shape, with no hard corners and no ends to be stuck at. Found in Béziers and dating to the 19th century, it stands on turned baluster legs, a big scrubbed oval top over two drawers set into the apron. Generations of scrubbing have worn the top smooth, and the drawers kept the everyday things close, the cutlery and the napkins right where the meal happened. Sylvie sets it as a dining table with chairs all the way around, the drawers for candles and cutlery, big enough for a long lunch that turns into dinner.
