Antique One-Of-A-Kind Wood Collector's Item

Italian tables were never shy, and this one stands on two great turned columns as thick as balusters off a staircase. Found in Avignon and dating to the 19th century, it carries a long plank top on those heavy legs, set on shaped block feet and joined low by a flat stretcher. The form comes straight from the Italian refectory table, the long trestle table of monasteries and palazzi, drawn out here narrow enough to live against a wall. Sylvie stands it behind a sofa with a lamp, a stack of books, and a big vase of flowers.
