A cabinet like this was never bought so much as made, put together by the carpenter who needed it and knew exactly what belonged in every drawer. Found in Montpellier and made in the early 20th century, it holds a bank of small drawers above open shelves and panelled cupboards, with two deep drawers below and brass cup pulls worn bright from use. Every drawer is a slightly different size, cut to fit a different part of the trade, the screws and hinges and small fittings each with a place of their own. Sylvie would set it against a kitchen or entry wall and let its many little drawers take in all the small things a house never quite has a place for.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. This cabinet has areas of finish and raw wood with minor scuffs and wear from its long history. The interior is raw wood, with shelving inserts that show some water staining. The cabinet locks properly, the hinges function well, and the knobs are in beautiful condition. There is a small split to the top and the back is unfinished plywood.
All items are final sale.
