Tapestry - The Fisherman

Late afternoon settles over a quiet river, a man poling his flat boat through the reeds while a woman gathers flowers on the bank and a village waits far off across the water. Found in Avignon and monumental in size, it stretches nearly wall-wide in a slim frame, tall trees framing the scene and the sky washed in soft green and rose. A pastoral like this belongs to a long French love of the idealized countryside, made to hang like a window onto a summer that never quite ends. Sylvie would give it a whole wall to itself and let the room borrow the calm of the water and the hour.
