Chateau Candle Scone - II

A candle on the wall did more than light a room, it threw a wavering glow up the stone and left a thin trail of smoke rising above it. Found in Amiens but originally from a 17th-century château outside Lyon, this hand-forged iron sconce holds a single candle beneath a small bell, all hung from a backplate topped with a fleur-de-lis. That little bell is a smoke bell, hung above the flame to catch the soot and keep it from blackening the wall, a small courtesy from the age of candlelight. Sylvie would hang the pair in a hallway or on either side of a mirror, lit for an evening when the overhead lights stay off. Two available, sold separately.
