A chest of drawers was where a household kept itself in order, the linens folded away, the good clothes laid flat, everything in its place behind a lock. Found in Normandy and dating to the 19th century, it stacks four graduated drawers behind pierced brass handles and keyhole escutcheons, set on turned bun feet beneath a molded top. The Dutch were among Europe's most admired cabinetmakers, their trading ships bringing home exotic woods and their workshops setting a fashion for chests and commodes that reached far beyond the Netherlands. Sylvie would use it in a bedroom or a hall, low enough to set a lamp and a stack of books on top.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The finish is in very good condition, with just a minor scratch to the surface. The piece has rounded, turned front legs and rectangular back legs. The drawers open comfortably, and no keys are included.
