Rare French Alps Stool

France, 20th Century

$195

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Sylvie Favorite

A carved flower blooms in the middle of this little stool's seat, on a thing otherwise made only to be sat on. Found near Lyon and low to the ground, it has a thick rectangular seat on four splayed legs pegged straight through the top. That six-petal rosette is an old Alpine motif, a compass-drawn flower carvers cut into everyday things and long believed to keep bad luck away. Sylvie would use it as a low perch by the fire or a little riser for a plant or a stack of books.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
