Alsace Desk

France, 18th Century

$1,595

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare

One drawer, four graceful legs, and a top worn smooth by two hundred years of letters. Found in Normandy and dating to the 18th century, it carries a single drawer with a carved rosette pull beneath a scalloped apron, all lifted on long cabriole legs. Those curving legs are pure Louis XV, the style that swept France in the 1700s, and this one was made in Alsace, a region long known for its cabinetmakers. Sylvie would set it against a wall as a writing desk or behind a sofa as a console, the drawer for pens and paper and whatever else a desk collects.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The glossy tabletop has minor staining, divots, scratches, and other marks from its long history. There is some variation along the wood border and gentle wear to the legs. The drawer opens smoothly and is lined with red velvet, which shows some wear from years of use.
