Antique French Buffet

France, 19th Century

$2,395

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Wood

A buffet was where a French household kept its good dishes, the ones brought out only when it mattered. Found in Avignon and made in the 19th century, it opens on two panelled doors above a scalloped apron and splayed feet, a single shelf inside for everything a table needs. The serpentine apron and the little splayed feet are the mark of the Louis XV country style, the curves that softened even the simplest provincial furniture. Sylvie would use it in a dining room for linens and china, or in a kitchen with a lamp and a stack of bowls set on top.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
