Just big enough for a lamp, some papers, and your coffee. Found in Avignon, it stands on bobbin-turned legs joined low by an H-stretcher, with a single drawer tucked under a thick plank top worn soft and pale. In a farmhouse one small table like this did the quiet work, the letters and the accounts and the odd job at the edge of the kitchen, and the stacked-bead turning on the legs, called bobbin, is just the kind of flourish a country turner could cut on his lathe. Sylvie would use it as a small desk under a window, or set it in an entry with a lamp and a bowl for keys, the drawer kept for whatever needs a home.
