French Occasional Table

France, 19th Century

$895

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Sylvie Favorite

A table that stands on a single column instead of four legs was made to be pulled close, drawn up to a chair for a cup or a book and moved along as the evening moved. Dating to the 19th century, it sets a round plank top on a fluted pedestal balanced on three scrolled feet. That fluting is a borrowed piece of architecture, the same channelled lines that run up a temple pillar, shrunk down here to hold a lamp and a letter. Sylvie would tuck it beside an armchair, the one small table a room always seems to need.
