Antique Rare Wood Hard To Find

Out of an old colonel's study on a grand estate in northern France came three of these, the stacking bookcases a library grew one section at a time. Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and dating to the early 20th century, it climbs five sections tall, four with a reeded-glass door that lifts up and slides back into the case, over a paneled drawer at the base. The barrister bookcase was built to grow, one glass-fronted section stacking on the last as a study's books multiplied, the doors tucking away so nothing gathered dust. Sylvie stands it in a study or a hall for books and treasures behind glass.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The cabinet is made up of seven individual units that stack and interlock with dowels and corresponding holes. The oak exterior retains a lovely finish, while the interior shows some staining and surface variation. The doors pull up and slide into the top of each unit to stay open, and the glass is in beautiful condition.
