By the door of a Catalan farmhouse there was always a bench like this, the place you sat to lace your boots, to wait for someone, to catch a moment out of the sun. Found in Béziers and carried up from Catalonia, it seats two on a worn plank seat, open arms resting on turned supports, a single wide board across the back finished with carved rosettes and ball finials. Catalan country furniture was made to be lived hard and last long, sturdy in its bones and given just a rosette or a turned finial where the maker wanted a little grace. Sylvie would set it in an entry under a mirror or at the foot of a bed, a two-person seat with a bit of Catalonia still in it.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The bench has a beautiful wood finish with normal wear throughout, including some small chips and splits from years of use. There is a small hole at the back of the seat, though the piece remains structurally sound. The metal that emblems on either side show some rust patina, and the bench has a slight rock when seated.
