A little rim around three sides is all it took to turn a table into a desk, a lip to keep the papers from sliding off. Found in Avignon but made in Italy, north of Rome, in the 19th century, it rests a galleried top on a splayed trestle base braced by a long central stretcher. The angled trestle legs are pure Italian country carpentry, knocked together for strength and easy to move, and a writing table this old and this intact is a rare thing to come across. Sylvie would set it against a wall as a desk or a console, the rim holding a lamp, a stack of books, and whatever the day leaves behind.

Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. This relatively lightweight table has been primarily sanded back to raw wood. Scuffs, scratches, paint splatter, and small splits reflect its long history, with some additional wear toward the bottom of the legs. The table remains structurally sound and in beautiful condition.
