A lot of handwork went into something this small. Found in Béziers and made in the 20th century, it sets a round top on four legs turned in stacked beads, joined low by a bobbin-turned cross-stretcher. That stacked-bead turning, called bobbin, runs the length of every leg and across the stretcher, the kind of patient lathe-work that gives a simple side table a little rhythm. Sylvie would set it beside a chair or a bed, a lamp and a book and a glass of water on top, wherever a small surface is wanted.
