Vintage Compotier - II

France, 20th Century

$135

Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured

A little pedestal is all it takes to turn fruit into a centerpiece. Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, it lifts a shallow white bowl on a pedestal foot, its rim scalloped and embossed with a raised scroll. The French call it a compotier, made to raise fruit or compote off the table and into view, the embossed rim a small flourish on an everyday thing. Sylvie would pile it with pears or lemons, or set a fat candle at its center.
