Outside Lyon there is a dealer we have known for years, and the loveliest things always come from the same place, his father’s collection, built up over a lifetime of looking. This glass cloche came from that collection, a pressed dome cut with a band of teardrops and little stars beneath a crown of fans, topped with a faceted knob to lift it by. It has the weight and the shine of old glass, catching the light in every cut facet and throwing it back. Sylvie drops it over a cake or a wedge of cheese, or a few small things she wants to keep under glass.
