Outside Lyon there is a dealer we have known for years, and the loveliest things always come from the same place, his father’s collection, built up over a lifetime of looking. This glass cloche came from that collection, a ribbed dome fluted from base to crown, finished with a scalloped band near the top and a little melon-ribbed knob to lift it by. It has the weight and the shine of old glass, catching the light down every flute. Sylvie sets it over a wedge of cheese or a small cake, or a little still life on the counter she wants to keep just so.
