Vintage Glass Cloche

Outside Lyon there is a dealer we have known for years, and the loveliest things always come from the same place, his father’s collection, built up over a lifetime of looking. This glass cloche came from that collection, a clear blown dome smooth all over but for a pleated collar fanning out beneath its flat glass knob. It has the weight and the shine of old glass, holding the light in one clean curve. Sylvie sets it over a bowl of plums or a round of cheese, or whatever small thing she wants to keep under glass.
