Carpenters Workbench

France, 19th Century

$2,295

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Jaw Dropper

Every drip and splatter on this cabinet was left by real work, years of a carpenter's bench where the paint and the plaster and the sawdust all landed and stayed. Found in Avignon and dating to the 19th century, it holds six deep drawers in two banks behind brass cup pulls, set low on a plinth base. A piece like this earned its surface honestly, and nothing made new could ever fake the way decades of use have layered and worn it down. Sylvie would set it in an entry or in a living room, its drawers deep enough for anything and its finish already perfect, left exactly as the years made it.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. This workbench shows the marks of many years of use, with paint splatters, chips, splits, nail holes, and surface wear throughout. Faint white stenciling remains on the top, along with rusted metal hardware. It has the kind of character that only comes from a long history of use.
