There is a particular comfort in keeping your books within arm's reach of where you sit, a few left standing, spines out, ready for the next quiet hour. Found in Avignon and made in the early 20th century, it carries a scalloped top above a central book trough, its sides pierced with little trefoil cutouts and the whole raised on curved legs above a low shelf. The three-lobed cutouts are trefoils, an old Gothic motif, and the curved legs and scalloped aprons place it in the Louis XV country style. Sylvie would set it by a bed with the current reading standing in the middle and a lamp on top, everything for the evening in one small place.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. There is a slight side-to-side wiggle, and the middle shelf is angled for holding books. The oak veneer on the bottom shelf is slightly puckered and peeling in places. The surface has worn through to raw, patinated wood in areas.
