19th c. Bedside Table

France, 19th Century

$895

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare

A table de chevet kept the night's things close, and this one keeps them three ways over. Found in Avignon and dating to the 19th century, it stacks a carved drawer over an open niche and a little cupboard below, framed by turned columns and a bold carved roundel on the door. The chevet takes its name from the head of the bed, the spot it was always meant for, near enough to reach a lamp, a book, and whatever gets shut away for the night. Sylvie would set it by a bed with a lamp on top, the niche for books and the cupboard for the rest.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
