Antique One-Of-A-Kind Hard To Find

A table de chevet took its name from the chevet, the head of the bed, for it lived its whole life within arm's reach of a sleeper. Found in Avignon and dating to the 19th century, it stands open at the front beneath a scalloped gallery, a heart cut clean through each side and the whole of it lifted on long curved cabriole legs. Those legs and folk-cut hearts place it in provincial France, where even a plain bedside necessity was given a little beauty. Sylvie would set it beside a bed for a book and a glass of water, the heart catching the lamplight.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece has been sanded back to raw wood and sits slightly unevenly, with one of its four feet resting just off the ground.
