Found in Avignon and dating to the 19th century, this long slim oak bench was built to be used and has come through the years remarkably well. Benches like this lived pulled up to a kitchen table, or set by the door where someone sat to pull off their boots. A single narrow plank forms the top, resting on two shaped board ends cut with an arch at the foot and worn smooth down the middle from decades of use. Sylvie sets it at the end of a bed or behind a sofa, a slim line of old oak with a folded throw or a stack of books along the top.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece is very sturdy, with many tiny holes throughout the wood. The top shows some sun bleaching, and one end has a small amount of white paint. Seat depth is 5.25".
