By the fire is where a hearth chair belongs, pulled in low and close to the warmth for the quiet end of the day once the flames have burned down. Found in Avignon and made in the mid-century, its every post and rail is worked into stacked beads, up to two pointed finials, around a woven rush seat. The style follows Charles Dudouyt, the French designer who spent the 1930s and 40s pulling rustic country forms into something bolder and more sculptural. Sylvie would draw it up to a fireplace, low and inviting and a little bit grand.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use.
