Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Collectors Must Have

A rush seat was the oldest comfort in a country house, twisted by hand from the rushes that grew along the river and woven tight across the frame. Found in Avignon and dating to the 1930s, it runs long and low, the woven seat stretched over turned legs braced by slender stretchers. Rush was nearly always saved for chairs, so a whole bench seated this way is a rare thing, the weaver's patient work run out to full length. Sylvie would set it at the foot of a bed or just inside an entry, a soft place to sit and pull on your shoes.
