French Hearth Armchair

Pulled up close to the fire is exactly where a chair this low was meant to sit, near enough to feel the warmth and low enough to settle into for a whole evening. Found in Avignon and made in the 20th century, it pairs a woven rush seat with a turned frame, rounded arms and ball finials capping the posts, a shaped ladder back rising between them. A chair was built this low to bring you down to the level of the fire itself, close to a hearth that once sat near the floor. Sylvie would set it by a fireplace with a sheepskin thrown over the back, or in a corner of a bedroom for a quiet place to sit.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The piece is very sturdy, and the rush seat is in excellent shape. The seat back is straight, and the seat itself sits quite low to the ground.
