Antique Textile Rare Collector's Item

A whole wood stands still inside this tapestry, the trees crowding close in blues and greens with a single bird at rest on a branch and a château far off through the leaves. Found in Avignon and dating to the 18th century, it hangs in a simple wood frame, a verdure worked in deep foliage with a pale sky opening behind the distant rooftops. The French call a green landscape like this a verdure, and Aubusson has woven them for centuries, its looms in the Creuse so renowned that the craft is now counted by UNESCO among the world's living heritage. Sylvie would hang it over a mantel or a bed, a wall turned into a forest that never loses its leaves.

Dear collector, this piece may show sun-faded color and a few loose threads. It’s all part of its age and character, just the way we like it. The wood frame is in good shape, and the textile shows a couple of loose threads and some stitched repairs from years of use. There are two metal loops on the back for hanging.
